India Slams Islamic Nations On Yasin Malik
India on Friday slammed OIC-IPHRC for its criticism of judgment in the terror funding case involving terrorist Yasin Malik and said the organisation has implicitly expressed
support for the terrorist activities.
India urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) not to justify terrorism in any manner, saying the world seeks zero-tolerance against the menace.
CASE AGAINST MALIK
Malik was convicted by a special National Investigation Agency court on May 19 in connection with a case of terror funding.
On May 10, Malik had pleaded guilty to all charges before a Delhi court in a case related to terror funding and secessionist activities in the Kashmir Valley in 2017.
He has been sentenced on 10 offences with punishments varying from five years to life imprisonment.
The order said that the crimes are of a “very serious nature” and were intended to forcefully secede J&K from India.
WHAT OIC SAID?
Earlier on Friday, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation had condemned Malik’s sentencing and had described the trial as “a sham”.
It had also claimed that Malik was kept under “inhumane conditions” in prison.The organisation had also called upon India to
release Kashmiri leaders who have been “unfairly incarcerated”.
He urged India to acquit Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik from all charges and ensure his immediate release from prison so
that he can be reunited with his family.
Separately, Foreign Minister Bilawal has written a letter to the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),
Hissein Brahim Taha, apprising him of the dire human rightsand humanitarian situation in Kashmir.
OIC — formerly Organisation of the Islamic Conference — isthe second largest inter-governmental organization in the world after the UN.
It describes itself as the collective voice of the Muslim world, and its stated objective is to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world.
It has reserved its membership for Muslim majority countries.
INDIA’S MEMBERSHIP
At 45th session in 2018, Bangladesh had suggested that India, where more than 10% of the world’s Muslims live, should be given
Observer status, but Pakistan had opposed the proposal.
However, EAM Sushma Swaraj had addressed the Inaugural Plenary of the 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in Abu Dhabi.
Invited by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Foreign Minister of the UAE as the Guest of Honour.
WHAT INDIA SAID?
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that Malik's terrorist activities have been documented and presented in court. Responding to media queries on the comments made by OIC-
IPHRC on the judgement of NIA Court regarding Yasin Malik, Mr Bagchi said India finds the comments unacceptable.
"India finds unacceptable the comments made by OIC-IPHRC today criticising India for the judgement in the case of Yasin Malik.
Through these comments, OIC-IPHRC has implicitly expressed support for the terrorist activities of Yasin Malik, which were documented and presented in the Court.
The world seeks zero tolerance of terrorism and we urge OIC not to justify it any manner," Mr Bagchi said.
